The Negroni was born in 1919 in Florence, Italy, at the Caffè Casoni café, thanks to the eccentric Count Camillo Negroni. This charismatic nobleman asked the bartender to make his favourite Americano cocktail stronger by replacing the soda water with gin. The bartender obliged and visually distinguished the drink by using an orange peel garnish instead of the usual lemon. The new combination of gin, Campari and sweet vermouth immediately gained enormous popularity and still bears the name of its famous inventor to this day.
